Chanel #PreCollection 2017: Refreshed Ephemeral Boutique At MBS

Categories:Other Brands

Remember how we mentioned that Chanel’s Ephemeral Boutique at Marina Bay Sands will span 3 distinct collections right up to October 2017? With the very first collection (Métiers d’Art) having just ended its run, the boutique has gone through a refreshing change yet again with Chanel’s #PreCollection 2017 taking over.

A collection that focuses on eye-catching logo-ed pieces with the taglineGabrielle = Coco, you’ll find bags, RTW like sweatshirts and tees, along with two-tone suede boots and shoes all adorned with that ‘math’ equation. And with key Chanel colours like Black, Navy, Red and White as theme colours that work beautifully well together, you’ll find them ‘suspended’ on elevated shelves all over the reorganised 3000 square foot space.

Partitioned into 4 distinct sections, you’ll find an all-new Ephemeral Boutique to shop to your hearts’ content, from the first room dedicated to all things Pre-Collection 2017, with another assigned to activewear pieces (think puffy nylon jackets in various colours, for example). Moving along, you’ll be pleased to find classic Chanel silhouettes like their two-toned pumps reinterpreted into single-toned beauties. And of course, you’ll also find a sprinkling of pieces from the Métiers d’Art collection for those who had missed out earlier on.

The Camellia Flower is a part of Chanel’s tradition due to the love story of the original founder Gabrielle Chanel. The story of the camellia flower started when the man she loved so dearly gave her a single flower and a gift. This man is Boy Capel and he is the love of her life. Even tough their love affair was short and ended sadly; it left a mark in the heart of Gabrielle.

And now meet the latest Chanel Camellia Edge Quilted Bags from the Pre-Fall 2017 Collection. Gabrielle’s love story lives on through this design as the Camellia flower is stitched beautifully on the left side of the front flap. The combination of the colors black and white is what makes it unique. A big part is crafted in black diamond quilting while the edge is made in white smooth leather. The white camellia flower is highlighted by putting on a black fabric. The Camellia flower represents femininity and it makes the bag look chic and ladylike. The top is finished with the iconic woven chain strap.

This is a rare fashion piece as it’s only available in the Pre-Fall 2017 Collection. Once the collection ends, this bag might not return anymore. So if you want to carry a part of Chanel’s love story or wants to sling a gorgeous bag that not many people carry, this is your opportunity to grab one.

We don’t have the style code, sizes or the prices yet. Check out at the Chanel boutiques for more details.

Chanel WOC (Wallet On Chain) Bag

Categories:Other Brands

I remember when I first heard of the Chanel WOC; I also remember it took me a while (maybe longer than I’d like to admit) to figure out “WOC” stood for “Wallet On Chain.” Chanel isn’t the only brand to make a WOC, but it’s arguably the brand most closely associated with the popular style, and much like many other Chanel pieces, the brand does its WOC oh so well.

[Editor’s Note: This post was originally published on October 6, 2015]

I know many people who own a Chanel Wallet on Chain and have had many friends ask me if that should be their first Chanel purchase. The next question I’m often asked is if the Chanel WOC is really that great and usable, and the best way to answer that question is to tell you exactly what fits inside of it.

Once you know what fits inside of the relatively petite Chanel WOC, it’s a lot easier to decide if the bag will be a good fit for your lifestyle. What I can tell you is this bag multitasks as a wallet, clutch and small crossbody bag, and it’s come in handy often for me and so many others. If you want to be part of the Chanel WOC fan club, look no further than the PurseForum.

The Chanel WOC measures 4.9″ x 7.5″ x 1.4″. These dimensions appear small, but the bag ends up fitting much more than you expect. There are, of course, plenty of versions; pricing starts at $1,900 for leather. The version I have is the Chanel Stingray WOC, which currently costs $4,000. There is also a slightly smaller size of this bag, 4.5″ x 7.5″ x 1.6″ that offers a removable chain strap and costs $3,400.

Here is what fits in the Chanel WOC:

– iPhone 6+
– Alligator card case from Lambertson Truex
– Louis Vuitton keychain and house key
– Car key
– Fresh Sugar lipgloss in Tulip | $22.50 via Sephora
– Gin Gins (I always have these!!) | $18.40 via Amazon
– Cash
– Credit Cards and other cards

Chanel Vanity Case

Categories:Other Brands

My 2017 Lunar New Year began with a big bang– hah, a health kinda bang, in a not- too- good way unfortunately. My allergic rhinitis worsened and gave me post-nasal drip which caused my throat to become infected, and my lymph nodes became swollen. I ended up with fever and chills, then bummer, dizzy spells which left me unable to function much for over 5 days! Anyway, today I felt so much better and decided to run errands. But I didn’t stay out long because I didn’t want a relapse. Scary!! I guess it’s true what they say, that when you are no longer a spring chicken, your immune system weakens. LOL

Ahh now for some bag talk. Specifically Chanel. Again. I have been haunted over and over by the image of one specific bag of late– the caviar leather Vanity Case:

I am haunted by it, but I really still find it so hard to justify paying over US$4,000 for it. It is after all, just a small bag.  But ugh, why does it have to be sooooo darn cute?!?!

Vanity cases were originally meant to store makeup and trinkets, and were not really meant to be carried as a “bag,” but this has obviously since changed. Chanel vanity cases never had shoulder straps in the past. But Chanel bags of today have become soooo expensive that maybe it isn’t such a bad idea to carry these older, vintage vanity cases as bags, no?

Will you carry an older Chanel makeup case as a bag? Heck, I would! It would have saved me $4,000

One of the most famous fashion designers of all time, Gabrielle “Coco” Bonheur Chanel was born in 1883 in Saumur, France. Raised in an orphanage and taught how to sew at a young age, Chanel had a brief career as a singer in nightclubs, where she picked up the name “Coco. ” She opened her first shop, on Paris’s Rue Cambon, in 1910 and began by selling hats. By 1920, she had ventured into clothes making, opening up two additional shops in Deauville and Biarritz. Her early clothing creations including the popular jersey dress, fashioned by the designer as a way to keep warm on a particularly cold day. Another popular design was the iconic “little black dress,” transforming a color worn in mourning to one that was synonymous with chic. With these and other creations, Chanel transformed the fashion world of the day, which was characterized by constricting garments for women. Instead, Chanel created simple yet sophisticated fashions made for a woman’s comfort. The designer’s early ready-to-wear women’s clothing line included blouses, suits, trousers and dresses coupled with elegant jewelry. Later in the 1920s, Chanel would launch her iconic perfume, Chanel No. 5. In 1925, the legendary Chanel suit, a collarless jacket design paired with a tailored skirt, was created. By this time, the young designer that came from humble beginnings became the toast of the literary and artistic world, gaining friendship with the likes of artist Pablo Picasso, playwright Jean Cocteau, and composer Igor Stravinsky, whom she also dated. By this time, Chanel was also creating costumes for the stage and screen, clothing movie stars like Gloria Swanson, Greta Garbo, and Marlene Dietrich. The 1930s saw the release of the still-celebrated Chanel bag, a classic handbag made with a thin shoulder chain, which would become the basic model for the many handbag creations to come. Later versions of the vintage Chanel bag would include the crossed C’s that would become the company’s logo. Along with stylish yet functional clothing designs and elegant, hands-free luxury bags, Chanel launched a line of costume jewelry splayed with fine gem stones in bold, theatrical patterns. But despite the success of her clothing, handbag and jewelry lines, the outbreak of World War II and the economic depression that followed forced Chanel to close her company and leave Paris later in the decade. She moved to Switzerland, where she lived for several years. In 1954, Chanel returned to the fashion world at the age of 70 by presenting a new line of women’s clothing that was feminine while still maintaining ease of movement for the wearer. This sensible yet chic style incorporated elements of the masculine contrasted with feminine complements like strands of pearls and quilted designs (seen in the brand’s clothing and handbag creations). This balance continues to characterize the Chanel brand to this day, though Chanel herself died in 1971 and Karl Lagerfield is now the fashion house’s chief designer. Lagerfield has continued Chanel’s legacy style by taking traditional Chanel elements such as tweed, gold accents, and metal chains, and incorporating them into designs for the modern era. The Chanel name continues to be one of the world’s most recognizable fashion brands, as vintage Chanel handbags, jewelry and clothing continues to be sought-after by fashion aficionados the world over.
